Principal's Message

August 13, 2014

Dear Edgemont Elementary School Community,

It is, indeed, an honor to have been selected to serve as your new Principal at Edgemont Elementary School this year (2014-2015). As we welcome your children to our campus, we would like to assure you that our purpose is to partner with you to educate our kids and to keep them safe while helping them to grow into culturally competent and socially responsible young people.

Edgemont Elementary School is a high performing school with the test scores and other data to back up the claim. Academic success occurs when school and family work together to raise our kids right. We hold high expectations for our students and we will hold them responsible for their own learning and accountable for their own behavior choices. By doing that, our students can take pride in their accomplishments and we can take pride in our kids!

Moreno Valley Unified School District, with input from parents and community members over the last year, has developed a comprehensive, four-pillared strategic plan (focusing our priorities, principles, processes, and commitments) through which we pledge to you that we will continue to make gains in the eight priority areas stipulated by the state of California: student achievement, student engagement, student outcomes, school climate, parental involvement, basic services, Common Core State Standards, and curricular access.

Our Education Services Department is constantly striving to provide the very best training for teachers and highly-developed, Common Core-based curriculum for our classrooms. With highly-trained teachers and state-of-the-art curriculum and technology, our students will be well-prepared for middle school and high school - with the ultimate goal of being college and career ready at high school graduation.

We invite you to become active partners in our many existing and developing parent groups: Parent Booster Club (fundraising), ELAC (English Learners’ Advisory Committee), AAAC (African American Advisory Council), PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association), or School Site Council or by volunteering your time and talents to help supervise or tutor our students during or after school.

We anticipate having a GREAT YEAR here at Edgemont Elementary School and we welcome parental input, participation, and support as we teach our little Edgemont Eagles to SOAR!!

Dr. Mayo comes to Edgemont!

Dr. Mayo comes to Edgemont! Dr. Mayo (President of Moreno Valley College) addressed the fourth and fifth grade students at Edgemont Elementary School today (Wednesday, March 18, 2015). She impressed upon their young minds that going to college will open doors to careers and . . . a life without college is a life with limitations. Dr. Mayo ended her address with a reading from the book: "Oh the Places You will GO!" by Dr. Seuss. After her presentation, Dr. Mayo donated the book to the library at Edgemont Elementary School.
